Verträumte harmonische Strukturen gegen das Licht, gesäumt mit verhallten ornamentalen Texturen - das ist die Heimat von Christian Pensel.
Der Multi-Instrumentalist nimmt einen mit auf eine Reise in seine aus der Improvisation geborenen spherischen Musik die durch Maschinen teilweise bis zur Unkenntlichkeit verfremdet wird. Seine Musik erinnert einen an Orte an denen man niemals war, Ereignisse die nie stattgefunden haben - alles verwaschen wie durch Milchglas betrachtet. ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ Take a trip through the improvised soundscapes of Christian Pensel, constructed by him playing multiple instruments with the aid of electronics to create a blooming world of sounds. He takes you on a journey into his spherical music which gets mangled through machines sometimes beyond recocgnition. His music brings back memories of places that you've never seen, of events that never took place - all made blurry as like being viewed through frosted glass. |
Bio
Ich muss Musik machen - das ist vielleicht das Einzige das ich wirklich weiß. Worte erschienen mir immer als eine ziemlich unzureichende Kommunikationsform - ein Instrument dient mir als ein viel besseres Sprachorgan, aber eines allein konnte auch meinen Durst nach Ausdrucksmöglichkeiten nicht stillen. Als Kind begonn ich nach der guten alten Blockflöte mit Unterricht in klassischer Gitarre, ein paar Jahre später begonn ich mir andere Instrumente selbst beizubringen - Klavier, Saxophon, Cello und später Querflöte.
Obwohl ich immer Musiker werden wollte hatte ich zuerst nicht den Mut dazu und fing etwas anderes an. Während dieser Zeit wurde mir allerdings klar, dass ich für nichts im Leben wirklich Energie haben werde, wenn ich nicht damit meine Zeit verbringe was ich von Herzen liebe. So brach ich mein Studium ab und begonn ein anderes. Von da an studierte ich Komposition für Film und Theater in Arnheim in den Niederlanden.
Neben Musik für Filme schaffe ich allerdings auch noch Musik in autonomen Projekten und Bands was mir sehr wichtig ist. Meine Musik existiert in den Bereichen von Soundscapes, Ambient, Acoustic-Eectronic, Improvisation, Modern Classical und allem dazwischen.
Ich liebe das experimentieren mit der Verbindung aus akustischen und elektronischen Klängen um neues zu schaffen aus dem, womit wir bereits vertraut sind.

I need to make music - that is maybe the only thing I really know for sure. Spoken language always felt like a pretty insufficient way of communication to me. Playing an instrument seemed to serve as a better speechorgan, but also one alone did not quiet fit my needs to express what I wanted to tell. I started playing classical guitar as a child (ok, actually the good old recorder came at the very first... - and I still play it), then came piano, later saxophone, cello and flute among others like melodica which is my loyal companion on the road.
Despite wanting to choose music as my profession, I did not have the courage at first to do so and ended up going in another direction instead. But during this time I realized that if I do not follow my inner compass I will regret it for the rest of my life. So I canceled my studies and started another - from there on I had been studying compostion for film and theater in Arnhem in the Netherlands.
But besides music for films I am also creating music in autonomous projects which is very important to me as well. My music exists in the realms of acoustic-electronic, soundscapes, ambient, improvisation, modern classical and everything inbetween.
I love to experiment in the area of sound where acoustic and electronic elements merge and create new sounds out of the ones we are already familiar with - seeking complexity within simplicity.
