Christian Pensel is a composer and multi-instrumentalist based in Bonn, Germany.
His music brings back memories of places that you have never seen, of events that never took place - all made blurry like watching them through frosted glass.
Spoken language always felt like a pretty insufficient way of communication to him, whereas playing an instrument appeared to be a much better speech organ. Christian began learning the guitar as a child and taught himself other instruments to broaden his palette of expression in the years to come - among them are piano, cello, flute, recorder, mandolin.
Out of a love for creating his own universe of sound he eventually studied Composition for Film and Theater at the ArtEZ Conservatory of Arnhem (NL). During this time he formed the band Plattentektonik and released his solo debut "Kreise im Wasser" on Unperceived Records in 2019. Heavy with the weight of storytelling, this selection of solo piano pieces performed by Niklas Paschburg favour wistful melodies and fluid lines. The all-pervasive melancholy of Christian's compositions, their unique arrangement as well as the delicate nature of the piano make this album really special.
